Mike Cross began these cool interludes that we take for granted now. In his Twilight Sector game, he really took advantage of e-mails to complete stories and adventures between game sessions...something I had never seen done before. Occasionally in the past, the DM and a player might jump on the phone and discuss matters regarding the upcoming game, or the events directly leading up to the game. But with e-mail...you could forward the e-mails to everyone, and every player could have input.
For my Star Wars game, we had reached a point in our playing schedule where we were going to be playing a different game for at least four months. I was afraid that the Star Wars campaign might lose its momentum or that everyone might forget about it...or lose interest in it. So I proposed that the players could write stories in order to advance their characters' storylines and their levels of experience, and that I would edit this series of stories into something that would set up our next game...some five months away (turned out to be six months!)
And in rolled the stories! Great stories. These were stories that really moved the game along, made everyone excited to play again, and that were really entertaining to read. To me, this was our first great Interlude...and in many ways I think of it as our first Mega-Interlude. Recently we had a D&D Interlude that when printed out totalled 43 pages! But I still measure the success of an Interlude against the quality of this one...and the excitement it generated.
When the Star Wars campaign ended...and the Azure Kingdom campaign began, we began using websites to build, store, and assist our campaigns. This was too late for the Star Wars campaign...none of it was saved or posted to the web electronically. Thanks to Scott having a bunch of this stuff on his computer still, and some serious re-typing on my part...we now have a Star Wars site...and these great stories the players wrote are available for your enjoyment!
