THE AVENGER AND MARNA JADE - 1/17/00

In space you have to imagine the sounds. The roar of the Mick-Ricks rocketing from one attack to another...repelled by the explosive concusions of defensive missles and the crack...crack...crack of point defense guns. The screach of metal rending metal as ships and loose pieces of ships collide quite by chance in the chaos of the battle field. The whistling firery path of guided missles tearing through space, and then the hard thud and deafening blast as they smash into and vaporize part of a ship's hull. Looking back at the ongoing battle you can only imagine the sounds...for it all happens in the cold silence of cosmic vacuum. You only hear the whispering whirl of your vacc-suits fans and your labored breathing.

In space you have to imagine the smells. The acric sting in your nose of smoke from a chemical fire. The sharp metallic odor of blood free-floating as sparkling red droplets, or pooling and un-pooling in large irregular "puddles." The warm black smoke of burning flesh...all of it imagined...for all you smell is the antisceptic staleness of recylced vacc-suit air.

But the SIGHTS...of those you have more than you would wish upon your worst enemy. The battle has gone bad for both sides...but the Mick-Ricks appear to be losing. Their large imposing conglomeration of a ship has taken multiple catastrophic hits...and shapeless fire is burning and spreading at several places along its length. The mines strewn around the ship continue to prevent it from manuevering, and occasionally a triggered mine will blow another hole in the already hole-ridden ship's hull. Mick-Rick bodies, broken, mangled, and sliced by the ablative shields of the F.B.T. Avengers litter the battlefield...floating and tumbling in a macabre dance.

Though the Fendora-Bengala forces appear to be winning their surprise attack, it is clear that they underestimated the destructive strength that one Mick-Rick pirate ship could bring to bear. Each individual Mick-Rick warrior is capable of rocketing onto the surface of the F.B.T. ships, torching their way in, and taking the battle to the humans inside. Criss-crossing lines of vapor and smoke remain as evidence of the number of these attacks that have taken place. The second Avenger ship, just opposite the one you are in the process of boarding, has stopped manuvering and firing missles. A debris-field around the Avenger suggests forced Mick-Rick boarding, and the resultant violent-decompression of many of the ship's compartments.

The sneak-attack had occurred without warning. Two Fendora-Bengala Avengers and 10 Fendora-Bengala Deathseeds came out of Hyperspace in and around the Mick-Ricks' large ship. The Deathseeds made numerous passes, dumping devestatingly powerful mines to prevent escape. The Avengers positioned themselves on either end of their target firing a large array of missle clusters and energy weapons at close range. And the battle was on...

Mick-Ricks were folded into the Great Hall's walls, and then released into space. They clung to their spear-rockets, and were propelled to engage the enemy. The ones that reached the hull of an enemy ship, seemed to attach to it with their boots, and then begin cutting their way inside with large outputs of energy from their spear. Once a hole was cut, the Mick-Rick would enter the enemy ship, and begin the process of "cleaning it" of enemy personnel.

You made your way very quickly to the Laughing Tingra, and disconnected from the Mick-Rick's ship. You engaged an Avenger, dodging mines and guided missles, not very successfully...and tried to get as close to the Avenger as possible. The Avengers began deploying Ablative Shielding of a particularly sharp and nasty sort in a thick layer around their hulls. Suffering much damage, you got close enough to your Avenger to attach yourself to its hull.

Without getting into every last detail of the process, and an extremely difficult process it was, Quinn-Roldoon was able to cut his way into the bottom surface of the Avenger's hull. As he cut with his brightly burning light saber, the compartment on the other side of the hull decompressed. In the meanwhile, Meko Dayspinner stayed aboard the Laughing Tingra, and is playing "dead-ship" possum, until such time as he is safe from further fire from the battle.

Quinn Roldoon pulled himself inside the Avenger's hull just minutes ago. When we begin Vette Vanjor, Morgan McCloud, Kenai Moongazer, and Ranar Tor are still struggling to get inside the Avenger. Quinn Roldoon is inside a cargo hold, and feels a familiar dark presence...a user of the Dark-Side of the Force is aboard this ship!

The following is my DM's plan for the January 17th game...transcribed from my hand-written adventure notes for that night. Notice the little reminders I wrote to myself to have sound and lighting effects described at the appropriate times!

QUIZ...then lay it out (read part of the introduction)

Quinn Roldoon - cargo hold...(BANG!)

-Dark Presence is felt by Quinn

Rest of Party, getting from outside into the F.B. Avenger

2nd Storage Chamber...fire raging...(BOOM!)...fire-retardant foam is raining down everywhere...Surprise!

BANTARI SERPENT: "Large head with crest of spikes, mouth spreads wide...jaw dislocates...big ass bite...many colors...irredescent, has paralysis poison, starts where victim is bit and spreads" (BOOM!)

3rd Storage Chamber - S-5F "Field Generating" security droid (and troopers hiding) (BANG!)

droid is tall thin, silver w/ visible wires - very non-human in appearance...there are spikes, that look like electrodes along his surface...begin to glow...POW! field is up and running.

(LIGHTS FLICKER...BOOM!)

If you get within 20 feet of security droid, the field explodes outward...have the corporate troopers attack at a dramatic moment.

(BIG BOOM!)

In the Elevator (lights flicker again, sirens going off - "inertial fields dampening...warning...")

Then over the intercom, "... battle ... over ... mick-ricks ... are ... (long pause) ... your avenger ... fire intense ... I'm near ... warp ... (long pause) ... second avenger and death seeds ... up escape pods ... going to blow ... out, now!"

("WARP BREACH ... WARP BREACH ... PROTOCAL 92.7 ... PROTOCAL 92.7 ...")

Door to engine room opens - describe:

Large mass reactor...pipes, conduits, doohickies...there is a glass wall that reveals engineering behind it, steam and smoke fill the air, rotating lights, and the "WARP BREACH" message is repeating over and over.

***The dark presence is very strong...VERY STRONG!

(BANG!)

A red light saber comes on...behind the smoke...it is Marna Jade! (tall, red hair, white skin, muscular by feminine, green eyes, big smile, big attitude).

Use lots of flips and lots and lots of Mind Tricks (hiding especially).

will seduce the jedi, or may escape (using escape pod)...though she may well die. (NOTE: In the end, Marna did escape using the escape pod, despite the earnest, but highly disorganized efforts of the players!)

If the drama of the game requires it, have some scared corporate troopers stranded on the ship, encounter the party.

ESCAPE BY CHARACTERS - This place is rigged to blow, 10 bombs, 3 are readily apparent. Meko Dayspinner picks up characters after other Avenger and Deathseeds hyperspace away.

Have the damaged Avenger explode spectacularly...

The Mick-Rick ship got away...the Jedi's ship is heavily damaged, Meko has coordinates for the Mecurial System already programmed in, and the box with the coordinates to where the children of Milos might be hidden has been damaged....
