Vis'aldorn Ocean
Wide fierce waters, torn by strong currents and pounded by the terrible storms and hurricanes it generates. Sailors tell stories of the massive sea-monsters that prowl for ships, and the Sea-Witch Beh-nor who rules its depths. Control of this Ocean has never been established by a single political power, and the Vis-aldorn Ocean has been the sight of some of the largest and most costly sea battles and sea wars in history.

NATURE: This is the known world's deepest ocean. Some sages have said that the ocean is actually bottomless in places, with underwater vortexes leading to other worlds…or perhaps the Elemental Plane of Water. The fact that it spans across the globe from artic waters to equatorial waters, drives this ocean's heavy currents. Its wide expanse and widely varying temperatures makes this ocean the birthplace and home of massive storms. Most of these hurricanes and storms stay at sea, and do not impact on land-dwellers. But occasionally massive storms will come ashore and batter down and flood entire coastal towns and cities.
FOLKLORE & MYTHS:
HISTORY: During the Empire War, the fact that the pre-Imperial powers did not have a standing navy of any size was a direct contributing factor to the invasion of Swaldune and Norlund forces onto the mainland. For that reason, the Empire War was mostly a land war and did not have a theater at sea. Almost immediately upon seizing power and declaring himself Emperor, Jestak set out to build a world-class navy for his Empire. He vowed that no enemy would again land significant forces on Imperial soil…and that vow has been unbroken for 125 years.
CURRENT POLITICS: The defeat of Swaldune and Norlund forces during the Empire War, was truly a land-defeat. Both of their large navies remained practically unscathed. Despite this fact, the large and modern Imperial Navy dominates the main shipping lanes of the Vis'aldorn Ocean. Armed warships from Norlund and Swaldune are not allowed to travel on Imperial shipping lanes, though trading ships and stripped down warships from both countries are allowed to travel them…at a sizable tax rate.
